We were just wondering if there was an new info on Chipotle's grass-fed beef program. We agree with you-- they are fighting the good fight. We want to help them. One day Chipotle and Estancia's grass-fed, pasture-raised beef will make beautiful burritos together. Thanks for putting so much great content out and for caring about food.

Abrazo,

Oh. Oh. Oh. Mistah Kahtah!
<a href="http://fussylittleblog.com/2011/03/17/moes-goes-for-foes/" rel="nofollow">We covered this</a> a while ago (and Hank, I know you read it).

The short answer is no, Chipotle doesn't use grass-fed beef in any meaningful way.

I would love it if they did. But the beef they do use is a whole lot more ethically raised than what is served in even some of the most expensive restaurants in my area. And I'm thrilled that Chipotle is making incremental improvements to the meat that is available to most Americans. Grass-fed should be the goal. I've watched Chipotle promise an increased commitment to quality ingredients over the years, and I've seen them deliver on it. Time and time again. They promised a larger share of organic ingredients, more produce purchased from local farms, and a wider distribution of their version of "happy beef", and have made good on them all.

Honestly I'm a little flummoxed by your tactics, as it should seem you are both fighting the good fight. But I also understand that when you are using grass-fed beef as your yardstick, Chipotle falls short.

Love FLB and especially the Meat Sheet, which we think of as Meat Sheet, a cheat sheet for the meat you eat.

Speaking of meat:

Does anyone know if Chipotle uses grass-fed beef?

Ever since we saw that animated video with Willie Nelson singing Cold Play's "The Scientist,"we've been Googling like crazy to try to separate the facts from the feel-good (and extremely effective) marketing.

Even before the video came out, critics have questioned whether Chipotle's ingredients are really healthier and more sustainably-produced as claimed. Check out our blog post:

I'm extremely curious about the place. I think I went to one in the city a few years ago but I don't remember being particularly impressed. I'll probably wait out the crowds.

Done and done. It is not on the menu, but they will make a cheese quesadilla for the little ones. Two of their small taco size flour tortillas, filled with cheese, and melted. I do not know what they will charge you for this little delight, but surely it must be less than a full burrito.

Hey Daniel!
Loved your recap of Chipotle. We have one close by that I use to frequent and I enjoy their food very much. I only have one beef to pick with them. They don't have a kids menu and I find it silly to pay full price for a regular size burrito for a child. Especially when many (most around here) other burrito places offer kids choices at a reasonable size and price. Therefore, I've stopped going. Maybe since you're part of the food elite you could get them to do something about my problem :)
