Fussy Little Giveaway: Cookware Edition

May 30, 2010

Well, this is getting interesting.  CSN Stores approached me about sponsoring a giveaway on the FUSSYlittleBLOG.  They are an online retailer with over 200 stores, so if you are considering bar furniture to contain your expanding liquor collection or cookware for your kitchen, they will likely have what you are looking for.  I haven’t counted to see exactly how many stores they have, but you can check them all out here.

But giveaways can be disappointing, since they generally have only one winner.
And do you really need one more thing cluttering your home?

I think I came up with a solution for both of those problems.  Because this giveaway will have three winners, and the prize (while modest) is an indispensable piece of cookware that you will use all the time, and that will last you the rest of your life.

Maybe you learned about my favorite pan when I originally wrote this post almost a year ago.  Well, not much has changed.  Except that my 10-inch cast iron skillet is even better now that it was then.  That’s part of the beauty of the beast.

So I decided that if could give three readers a 10-inch cast iron skillet, this would be a worthwhile promotion.  It is the perfect size for making a grilled cheese sandwich, French toast (for one), burgers, an omelet, an egg-with-the-hole-in-the-bread, a frittata, or even simply heating up leftovers.

As luck would have it, cookware.com carries the pan.  Granted, I have a Lodge and this one is Emerilware. I’m not a big fan of the chef and his mug, but the pan is manufactured by All-Clad and has a lifetime warranty.  That means every time you cook using what will surely become your new favorite pan, you will think of the FLB and hopefully smile.  It sounds like a good giveaway to me.

Now officially, the prize isn’t the pan.
The prize is a $20 gift certificate to any of the 200+ CSN stores.
But I want you to get this pan.

Really I want all of you to get this pan, but I only have three gift certificates to give away.  So here is what you need to do:

1)    Comment. Any words with a real email address is fine.  I will be submitting the winners’ email to CSN and they will send you the certificate.
2)    After you comment, for a bonus entry tweet about the giveaway.  Just don’t forget to include the text “@my50cheeses” so I can see that you did it.
3)    After you comment, for another bonus entry you can blog about the giveaway.  Just make sure that you link back to this post so I can track it.

That is all.  Winners will be selected by 11:59 PM June 6, 2010 using a random number generator.

Final disclaimers: I received no personal compensation for this promotion, and am acting on good faith based on emails with the CSN Stores promotions team.  Neither Daniel B. nor the FUSSYlittleBLOG will be liable should CSN fail to fulfill the prizes as described above.  If a winning email address proves to be invalid, for whatever reason, the prize will be forfeited and awarded to a runner-up.

Daniel, this is a great idea. I’ve been looking for a cast iron pan to use for camping and frittata making at home. All-clad is my go-to cookware manufacturer. I chose a set of stainless all-clad from my points earned on a credit card. Granted, it took five years to rack up enough points, but they are the most versatile of any cookware I’ve ever used.

    Hi Daniel,

Thanks for the giveaway. I have been trying to find the perfect pan to make eggs that don’t stick.

BTW, we met on Yelp a year or so ago. We left the Capital District and I’m sorry we never got a chance to meet.

    Take care,
    Ellen

I already have that exact pan. I wasn’t happy it was Emerilware, either, but it’s a really nice, good quality pan. So can I still enter the contest, even if I don’t need a second cast iron skillet?

I don’t tweet, so no bonus entries for me, but I really like this giveaway.

I’m with you, Daniel. A good cast iron pan is invaluable. I’ve had mine for thirty years and it’s perfect! Shiny and black and I use it very often.

What if your name isn’t really your name? What if you already have two favorite cast iron pans (one for meat and for dairy)? What if Starbucks doesn’t really make milkshakes?

So many questions. The next ‘Ask the Profussor’ will be very interesting.

Awesome idea! I could certainly use it to further my quest to make the perfect cornbread – forever a work in progress so if anyone has any recipes, I’m always looking! I had it once down south, perfectly moist, just sweet enough, but a little salty too.

No one who really cares about cooking will have to be sold on the merits of cast iron. Properly cared for models are among the most functional heirlooms imaginable. My collection includes a Griswold (a name well known to collectors) that is reserved for seafood. I use a more contemporary Wagner (~1995) for just about everything else. I also have a few of the ribbed style pans that are designed to leave “grill” marks. Frankly, I find that they are a bit of a pain to clean and since I grill outdoors year around, these get very little use. I am also a big fan of enameled cast iron, but then who isn’t?

I applaud your efforts to spread the word to the uninitiated.

I don’t have a cast iron pan. In fact I have few “quality” kitchen implements. My other wish list purchase is a Le Creuset pan.
