Est Arrivé

September 5, 2010

For the six people out there who ventured to guess which coffee contraption I am going to review as part of my deal with CSN stores, your long wait is over.  My shiny new toy has arrived.

And one of you was pretty close to guessing what it is.

It was the Cuisinart burr grinder.  Not the Capresso.  And I’m embarrassed to say that even though it actually arrived a few days ago, I still have yet to operate the machine even once.

Actually there is a lot I’m embarrassed by today.

Even though I am a tremendous lover of great coffee, Mrs. Fussy and I drink bad coffee far too often.  I understand in England they sometimes say that tea need only be wet and hot.  Granted the English have a reputation for being big tea drinkers, not great tea drinkers, although that is changing.

When you drink a lot of something, it is sometimes cost-prohibitive to consume it at the level of quality one might like.

Young Master Fussy has learned that coffee makes adults go.

Anyhow, I haven’t had a burr grinder until now.  Almost all of my coffee has come into the house pre-ground.  On the rare occasion when there have been whole beans present, I have brutalized them with a blade grinder.

But very recently I came into possession of some really good coffee beans, and I could not subject them to the horrors of the blade grinder.  Thus, we have our current situation.  One would think that I would have jumped onto the machine, and started grinding beans for my French press and Melita filter.  But no.

And now I’m off on a brief road trip to see some family.  So it will have to wait even a few days more.  But I am really seriously looking forward to putting it through the paces, and letting you know if I think it’s worth a damn.

The ironic thing is that I could really use a good cup of coffee right now.  And for the first time I have access to one just a few feet away.  But instead I’m drinking swill.  Hey, it’s hot, it’s wet, and it makes adults go.

I’m not complaining.

I suspect you will soon look back on your pre-ground coffee days as the dark ages. We have used Deans Beans (.com) for many years. You can sample and make your own blends until you settle on a favorite.

Would you believe that was my second guess?

Well, I’d be lying. I guessed under the assumption that you would have already had something like this. And here’s another truth: when I read the post title I wondered, what the hell would you have to say about Beaujolais Nouveau in September?
