Do you know what happens every year on May 1 (besides May Day of course)?

It’s the FUSSYlittleBLOG’s birthday! Or is that blogiversary. Have we stopped using that word? Maybe it’s just simply the blog’s anniversary. I don’t know.

What I do know is that you are reading post number 1,770. I guess that’s what happens when you decide to write down what you’re thinking about food and drinks five days a week for six years.

You may ask, where’s the party? It’s a good question. I have no plans, but I will be at the Capital American Eatery tomorrow starting at noon, handing out Yelp schwag for those who check in using the mobile app. I even still have a few free tickets to give away. So if you wanted to wish me a happy anniversary, that’s the best we’re going to do this year.

I have something else for you. It’s a present. Really, it’s a giveaway of something related to the blog that I’m very excited about. I’ve only got one to award to a lucky commenter. So read on if you want to learn how to win.

But first I’m going to give you fair warning about something I’ve never done before.

The FLB is going to take a vacation. Really, I’m going to take two. The only time I’ve ever done this was in the first year of the blog’s existence. Let’s just say that it didn’t go well. But maybe if I tell you when I’m leaving and when I’ll be back, this time readers won’t fall off in droves.

Mark your calendars. May 25 I leave for China. May 31 I return. There are no plans to blog from Beijing. So, if anyone wants to write any guest posts for that week, I’d gladly take submissions.

Then, later in the summer, I’ll be heading out into the wilderness with no internet connection. But that’s not until the first week of August. So we’ve got some more time to prepare.

Now about this giveaway…

Do you remember a long time ago, I mentioned that I had a recipe and a couple of blurbs in the 12 Bottle Bar book? It’s a great reference guide that turns the very clever 12 Bottle Bar blog into something you can hold in your hot little hands.

And I want one of you to have a copy.

Here’s all you need to do. Since anniversaries are supposed to be a celebration of the longevity of an institution, tell me in the comments below which story on the FLB has been one of your favorites, and why. Choosing an all time favorite is not only hard, but it’s too much pressure. Hopefully there is something from over the years that I’ve written which has stuck with you or struck some kind of chord. I’d love to hear which stories had personal resonance.

Do that and you are entered. You’ve got all next week to think about it. Comments will close at 10p on Friday, May 8.

A winner will be randomly selected from qualifying comments using as usual. And as always, no whining. Hope to see some of you out on Saturday. Just know I won’t be at the Chowda Challenge all day, but I’ll be there when it begins and hopefully my Yelp shot glass stash will be gone in a couple of hours.

Beijing? Why are you going there? (By the way, my husband says, “Make sure to eat lots of good dim sum while you’re over there.”)

The post inviting people to the Tour de Cider Donuts this past year has to be it for me. As new residents in the capital region, we were looking for ways to meet people and figure out the low-down on food. That post got me involved and has helped me branch out and meet people here. So thanks for that.

I like many, especially when you’re being a trouble maker. I particularly enjoyed your assault on Dunkin Donuts when you revealed to the world that their fried eggs had 13 ingredients.

I’d say your Tour de Fish Fry – as an Albany native, I tell people about our Fish Fry being a local specialty but I could never word it/explain it as well as you did.

Plus, I learned a few new places to try out (ie Gene’s)

I just looked it up again and mine is “There is no Martini Glass” from 2009

“Cheese. Meat. Repeat.” from December 1, 2014

I love hearing about other peoples awesome holiday spreads…and the awesome stories that come along with those spreads. It was a great balance of a blog post.

I started reading the blog when I read some of the food posts on AoA, including all the tours and the tournament of Pizza (which I’d post the bracket at work and we’d hit all the nominated locales off the whole year after). But I would say the one I forward on the most is the one on Stevia. Just so my friends know its got controversy, but also how to look at the whole aspect of the argument. Not for or against, but informative.

I’m going to have to go with the one from June 3, 2009 titled “Abuela’s Frijoles Negros.”

It was a good story and you provided a recipe that is now a staple in my house. My three sons love, love, LOVE beans and rice, and this particular preparation is a favorite.

Thank you all for the lovely sentiments. I could never choose a favorite among the comments. Luckily, we have who picked buffsoulja to be the winner of the book.

Congratulations. I’ll be in touch about your prize.
