Boston and Back or Bust

July 24, 2015

Today’s going to be hard. There’s the 350 miles of driving, but that’s no big thing. It will be broken up into parts. Half of it is to Boston. The second half is getting home from Boston. And each leg will probably be split into two for a chance to stretch the legs.

One hard part is that I’ll be in this great city and not get to take in many of its charms. I’m there for a quick presentation, and then it’s time to get back home. There are obligations this weekend in Albany that cannot wait.

Naturally, the other other hard part has to do with food.

I’ve been pretty good about making healthier choices this week as I’m trying to shake the seven pounds I seem to have picked up recently. But on the road, temptations are going to be even greater.

Shitty temptations, too, like McDonald’s french fries. And in Boston I’m still going to get one meal. But it’s with the kids of two different families, so I’m thinking that might be burritos. There’s no such thing as a moderate burrito. Don’t even suggest for a second that perhaps I could only eat part of it. The best part of a burrito is its “heart,” and that’s located down at the bottom in the very last bite.

Speaking of temptations, on Saturday after I return I’ll be picking up my first cake from Crisan in a long long time. It’s going to be the first cake I’ve bought from there since they moved to an orders-only model and turned their cafe space into a larger production area.

The upside is that I’ll need to mow the lawn on Saturday too. So at least I may be able to earn a few bites of that super special treat.

You should see me. Last night I pulled the skin off my chicken. And I took the breast instead of my beloved leg-thigh. I neither ate the oysters nor the wings. Plus there was salad that I ate of my own free will. I don’t even know who I am anymore.

I’m just looking for this weight to come off as quickly as possible, so I can get back to some good eating. Maybe on Sunday I can take another three hour Yelpabout. I’ll have to do something, because I have a date with some smoked sausage on Wednesday.

Wish me luck. Have a great weekend.

Assuming you were not on this grim schedule, what/where would you eat in Boston? What is one can’t miss place you endeavor to visit on every visit? I have those for SF, LA, NYC and even Saratoga but not Boston.

Burritos? Are those even food? Surely you can find something worth eating for the one meal you’ll eat in Boston. If you have time, I’d squeeze in a trip to any of the Flour bakery locations.
