Funday: Small Problems

September 11, 2015

There are lots of hard days to be a food writer. It’s not that food writing isn’t important. It can be. But it’s a luxury when so many go without, and it’s a privilege to obsess about trifles when people at home and abroad are oppressed. And then of course there are days like today.

A couple years ago I wrote a post about how reflecting on today made me feel lucky. My friend Michelle, aka Mama in Pajamas wrote a brief post about her experience with the day, and a request for remembrance. I thought it was really touching.

My small problem du jour is that there is just too much awesome stuff to do. It feels like a really small problem today. So I’m not going to complain, even in jest. I’m going to feel grateful that I get to be here and be overwhelmed by it all. Fortunately, there were some press releases about a few of these events. And there’s news from the future too. For what it’s worth, the future looks fab. It has noodles.

Tavern Noodle Pop-Up Returns to Troy
Ramen concept to take over Peck’s Arcade for Troy Restaurant Week, September 16-19

TROY, N.Y. – Troy Restaurant Week 2015 will be taking place Monday, September 14th – Sunday, September 20th, throughout the City of Troy, New York.

Peck’s Arcade, a casual fine dining restaurant typically open Wednesdays – Saturdays at 211 Broadway, will step aside for Troy Restaurant Week for the return of Tavern Noodle, a pop-up ramen noodle concept which sold out of all product quickly in two December 2014 openings.

Chef Nick Ruscitto, who oversees the kitchens for both Peck’s Arcade & Lucas Confectionery in Troy, has developed the menu for the pop-up’s return. “The goal of Tavern Noodle is to have fun and create an exciting dining environment, and hope that patrons enjoy it as much as we do. We look at Troy Restaurant Week like a blank canvas; as an opportunity to test out some new ideas”, said Ruscitto.

Tavern Noodle will feature an array of Asian Soul Food dishes, including hot noodles, small plates and steamed buns. The four-day pop-up will be taking place from Wednesday, September 16th through Saturday, September 19th, beginning at 5:00 P.M. each night, at 211 Broadway in Troy. Reservations will not be accepted. For updates on the progress, follow @TavernNoodle on Twitter.
