Coffee Confection Confession

May 4, 2016

Okay. I’ll admit it. Sometimes, I feel like something other than brewed black coffee or a well made cortado. For the most part, I like my coffee to be coffee flavored. I don’t even like to get a lot of milk in my espresso drinks, which is why I typically lean towards the cortado. It’s about halfway between a macchiato and a cappuccino.

But this past Sunday I was having a rough day, so I pulled into the nearest Starbucks and ordered the unthinkable: a coconut milk mocha. And you know what, it totally hit the spot.

It didn’t hold a candle to Superior Merchandise Company’s winter flavored latte. That walnut rosemary drink was indeed something special. Now they are doing some kind of rosewater matcha latte? That also sounds pretty damn good.

What I’m trying to do here is create a bit of judgment free zone. There are lots of people who drink flavored coffee all the time. I’m guessing a few of you may even drink flavored coffee at Dunkin’ Donuts. Well, today, I’m looking for a few volunteers.

I have an ulterior motive. And it shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone who has read the FLB in the past. But I want Dunkin’ Donuts gone. I love donuts. Heck, I used to love Dunkin’ Donuts when they fried their donuts in each store every night. But I hate what DD has become, and amazingly the brand identity is so strong, people keep eating there even though it has gone down the tubes.

People are creatures of habit. I get that. I’m a creature of habit too. That’s the only way this blog keeps rolling along. I just write a post every night. If I stop once, I might stop forever. So if you are a Dunkin’ Donuts flavored coffee drinker, I’d like to try and break the habit. Not of flavored coffee. Not of convenient coffee. Just of Dunkin’ Donuts’ coffee.

Which brings me to my proposal.

I’d like to invite the Dunkin’ Donuts flavored coffee drinkers to a very special event. It’s a flavored coffee tasting, and behind the scenes coffee experience, at a place that’s just as convenient, but not yet known for their flavored coffee.

And truth be told, since I’m not a flavored coffee drinker, I don’t know if it’s any good. That’s another reason I’m inviting you along. I’m going to rely on your honest opinion. For real.

Did I mention that those who come along and donate their body to science will also walk away with a $25 gift card for more free coffee? That’s at least a week’s worth of free coffee, maybe more. I’ve got room for seven people on this outing. And if you want in, just tell me in the comments below, or feel free to reach out privately or via social media.

But you have to be available to show up in Watervliet* on Wednesday, May 11 at 10am. I’ll provide the exact location when I confirm your attendance.

If you are unavailable to come out, but are still interested, there may still be a chance for you to win one of those $25 gift cards down the road. So chin up.

And if you yourself aren’t a Dunkin’ Donuts flavored coffee drinker, feel free to pass this offer along to someone else who may benefit and be able to help me out. You’ve got until Sunday to request your spot, and on Monday I’ll send out confirmations of who made the cut.

I’m eager to see how this goes, and hope you can join me on this unusual coffee adventure.

* That’s the location of the tasting. Your $25 worth of coffee is redeemable at convenient spots all over the Capital Region.
