It’s My Party And I’ll Fly If I Want To

December 6, 2017

Happy birthday to me!
Today I’ll be attempting to treat myself well.

What does that mean? Glad you asked.

For starters, as some people have no doubt noticed, I got a bit of a delayed start on posting the blog. I’m showered, shaved, and feeling fine.

I’m also going to be spending all day in airports or on airplanes. The desert is calling my name. So I’m off to Phoenix. Scottsdale really. And as much as I’d like to say this is purely a trip for pleasure, it’s an outing for work. But my work is so much fun, it’s sometimes hard to tell the two apart.

Booking a trip from Albany to Phoenix is a challenge. But I found a way to do it on Southwest, with good arrival and departure times, and without relying on sketchy third party planes. However, it also means I have to criss cross the country to get there.

So I’m off to Orlando!

I’ve never been to the Orlando airport. And I’ve got two books,  a computer, and a phone. This should be a relaxing day of reading, napping, and snacking. To make the whole thing even more relaxing, I checked my bag. Maybe I’ll regret that later when I arrive in Phoenix and just want to get to the hotel. But I think it’s for the best.

Speaking of airports, I got to the Albany airport really really early. Long story. But there is free WiFi, plenty of places to sit, and it’s better than just killing time at home.

I also got a free massage.

For some reason my groin set off an alarm on the x-ray machine. For real. So I got a quick standing massage. It was nice. The agent touched my butt, rubbed my thighs, and patted my privates. He did tell me what he was going to do before he did it. And I had the option for privacy. But hey, I’m not shy. Obviously.

He didn’t buy me a drink, but it’s my birthday. And the airport bar had Brown’s Oatmeal Stout on tap. That sounds like second breakfast to me.

What further adventures will today hold? Will Southwest give me a free drink coupon on my birthday? Your guess is as good as mine.

I’ve got a couple of granola bars in my bag, just in case there is no food on the airplane or anything edible at the airports. If I’m lucky I’ll be able to stay off Twitter and most of Facebook. And that’s probably the best birthday gift I could ask for these days.

Hopefully, I can provide live updates from Orlando. Stay tuned.

Happy Birthday. No need to starve at the airport. Been through both many times.

Orlando has a Brioche Doree across from a Burger King by the gates from which I’ve flown to Albany. It’s delightfully awful. Sad sandwiches and bad coffee.
