The Day Before Christmas

December 24, 2018

‘Twas the day before Christmas
And all through the house
All the Fussys were packing
For a trip to the south

Raf is roasting two ducks
For the holiday meal
So I picked up some wine
That is sure to appeal

Pinot Noir goes with duck
One from Jura is neat
So say the experts at
22 2ND ST.

What I’ve learned about holidays
Is that they’re more than just food
The thing I love more
Is the holiday mood

While I wanted the wine
To bring to the south
What brought me to Troy
Was a treat for my mouth

Those crazy kids
Who own The Dutch Udder
Created a malted
Unlike any other

Replacing the milk
With thick liquid custard
This chocolate malted
Mos def cuts the mustard

Little Miss Fussy
Was my partner in crime
She said, “this is perfect”
I thought it sublime

But now that it’s Monday
You’re just out of luck
The DU’s closed for the season
I’m sorry, that sucks

Little Miss Fussy and I
Walked the streets of the city
Drinking our heifer
And admiring what’s pretty

We looked at the buildings,
and because I’m the smartest,
I walked to a shop
That’s owned by an artist

Superior Merch
Doesn’t need more publicity
But we did get to see
Its owner Felicity

I just read online that
The art on the cans
Of my new favorite thing
Came from her very hands

Yesfolk Tonic kombucha
Is made from great tea
In a Troy church basement
Which fills me with glee

It’s just like a scene
From Arlo’s great song
Which much like this poem
has gone on too long

So from the hills of Troy
To the Panama isthmus
Best wishes to all
For a beautiful Christmas
